Nothing short of disappointing

Posted by texas45 on 12/31/2007

We arrived at Baffin Bay Cafe as a result of the King's Inn being closed for the holidays, which was on our itinerary simply by default. I mention this to emphasize that we weren?t disappointed to be redirected I look at situations like this as simply an opportunity for something unexpected. Coincidentally a lady recommend the Baffin Bay Cafe earlier in our trip so I wasn?t at all reluctant to go. When we arrived we didn?t have reservations which we found out were required during the couple weeks that the King?s Inn is closed due simply to all the redirected business going to the Baffin Bay Cafe. We conceded that we wanted to eat and would settle for an outdoor seating even though it was a little too cool. It was a bit disheartening while we ate we could watch all the tables in the restaurant and notice three tables that were never seated while we remained out in the under lighted cold. It wasn?t until after we ordered that we were informed by a neighboring outdoor table (a local that had never heard of the reservation situation) that the specialty of the house was their family style ?seafood by the pound?. To be brief none of the menu items sounded great and what we ordered was just as unimpressive. As we left my wife confronted the boy at the register/host desk about the empty tables. The boy was rude, changed his story four times and then stated that we could have waited for an indoor table, a choice we were never presented with upon our arrival. Fortunately our waitress Angie was a wonderful service person and pleasant. Angie is the only saving grace of the Baffin Bay Cafe. Skip it and take a chance somewhere else. They appear to have too much default business and really don?t need to do too much menu wise to impress. We won?t be back.

Great seafood, long wait....

This was my first time here. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. The waitress took about 10 min to bring us our drinks. We ordered family style, fish, shrimp, onion rings, fries, coleslaw and oysters. The waitress brought delicious tartar sauce to eat with crackers while we waited. The tartar sauce was just right, not too spicy or mayo-y. We finished a whole bowl in a matter of minutes. The food took too long in my opinion. We waited an hour and a half which would have been understandable if the restaraunt was busy but there was only two other parties dining! After the long wait the waitress brought hot, cooked to perfection seafood to the table. The shrimp were enormous and the fish was incredibly fresh. The fries and onion rings were crunchy and just the way I like them. If you have the time then the food is worth the wait. Its just as good as the "other" seafood place close by and is more reasonably priced!

Baffin Bay Caf is a great alternative to Kings Inn. They offer much of the same type of food, but at a lower cost. The view is wonderful and they have a large patio situated right on Baffin Bay. They food has always been great and the service is pleasant.
